The establishment ceremony of the Guangdong Provincial Working Group of the Ministry of Education's "101 Project" in the field of computer science was held at Sun Yat-sen University

On April 25, 2025, the establishment ceremony of the Guangdong Provincial Working Group in the Computer Field of the Ministry of Education's "101 Project" was held at the National Supercomputing Guangzhou Center of Sun Yat-sen University. Professor John Hopcroft, Turing Award winner and initiator of the plan, Zheng Yue, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, Li Xiaoming, Vice President of Greater Bay Area University (Preparatory), Professor Hu Zhenjiang, head of the Computer "101 Plan" working group and Dean of the School of Computer Science at Peking University, Professor Guo Yao, Secretary General of the Computer "101 Plan" group and Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science at Peking University , and other experts and scholars attended the ceremony. Representatives from more than 10 universities in Guangdong Province attended the establishment ceremony. The event was hosted by Wu Di, Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science at Sun Yat-sen University .

Director Jiang Lin of the Higher Education Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education emphasized in his speech that the "101 Plan" is a systematic undergraduate education reform project coordinated and promoted by the Ministry of Education. It focuses on achieving a paradigm shift in talent training models through the four-in-one construction of curriculum system, textbook construction, teacher training and practice platform. She expressed three expectations for the working group: building a computer course resource system with Bay Area characteristics; establishing a cross-school faculty collaborative development mechanism; and creating an innovative talent training ecosystem that integrates industry and education.

Vice President Zheng Yue of Sun Yat-sen University said that Sun Yat-sen University focuses on the country's major strategic needs, fully implements the spirit of the provincial high-quality development conference, and supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, the school has accelerated the construction of an international science and technology innovation center and talent highland in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and cultivated a large number of creative talents with strong learning, thinking and action abilities. Sun Yat-sen University will take the upcoming Artificial Intelligence Development Conference as an opportunity to systematically promote the construction of the "101 Project" courses, focusing on creating a number of first-class core courses that are advanced, innovative and challenging.

As the initiator of the "101 Project" and the leader of the "101 Project" in the computer field, Professor John Hopcroft emphasized that computer science is becoming the core driving force of the technological revolution. He called on Guangdong universities to actively support the "101 Project" and called on outstanding educators to work together to improve the quality of computer education. While reaffirming the fundamental mission of higher education, he proposed that the focus of colleges and universities should be refocused on providing high-quality education and revitalizing teachers' mission to cultivate innovative talents.

In his speech, Secretary Ma Xiao of the School of Computer Science and Technology of Sun Yat-sen University said that since the launch of the "101 Project" of the Ministry of Education in 2021, our school, as one of the first 33 universities to pilot the reform, has actively organized superior faculty to participate in the "101 Project" in the computer field. Core course construction, core textbook construction, core practice platform construction, core faculty team construction and other tasks, assist in improving the classroom teaching level of computer majors, promote the construction of computer disciplines, and provide talent support for building a strong country in science and technology.

On behalf of the Computer "101 Project" Working Group, Professor Hu Zhenjiang, Dean of the School of Computer Science at Peking University, presented appointment letters to the member units of the "101 Project" Guangdong Provincial Working Group .

After the establishment ceremony, Professor Hu Zhenjiang, on behalf of the Computer "101 Plan" Working Group, congratulated the establishment of the "101 Plan" Guangdong Provincial Working Group. Sun Yat-sen University has injected new vitality and impetus into the reform of computer education and teaching. He hopes that the working group will establish a normalized working mechanism as soon as possible, make full use of the platform and resources of the "101 Plan", and use the Teacher Reward Program 2.0 in the "101 Plan" as a starting point to continuously promote the construction of computer education courses, teaching materials, teaching teams and practical projects to further improve quality and efficiency, and iterative updates.

Wu Di, vice dean of the School of Computer Science at Sun Yat-sen University, said in his statement that the "101 Plan" provides a clear path and strong support for the comprehensive reform and optimization of computer science education and teaching. The School of Computer Science will work with the "101 Project" working group, under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Undergraduate College Computer Professional Teaching Steering Committee, to establish and improve a long-term working group mechanism, accelerate the application and iteration of teaching resource results, deepen classroom teaching ability exchanges and training, and create a sustainable talent training ecology.Provide support for computer education and teaching reform in colleges and universities in eastern province.

During the exchange and discussion session, representatives of the member units of the Guangdong Provincial Working Group of the "101 Plan" conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on teacher teaching and training, education and teaching reform, etc. based on the actual computer education and teaching of their own schools and colleges, contributing to the cultivation of high-quality computer innovation talents in Guangdong Province.
