Institute of Scientific Computing

The Institute of Data Science is dedicated to high-level research in the foundational theories, methodologies, and practical applications of data science. It has three primary missions and objectives: supporting international-level research in foundational theories and methodologies of data science, promoting the development of data science applications addressing significant societal needs, and cultivating top-tier research talents in data science. The institute houses two important research platforms and teams: the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Computational Science and the Guangdong Innovation Research Team in Computational Science.

The team members include recipients of the Guangdong Natural Science Outstanding Youth Fund, among others. The institute primarily conducts research in scientific computing and large-scale numerical simulations, big data, medical image processing, and high-performance computing. It has undertaken over 40 research projects at national, provincial, and ministerial levels. The institute's researchers have published a series of studies in renowned international academic journals such as Medical Physics, Physics in Medicine and Biology, EBioMedicine, IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems & Rehabilitation Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Catalysis Today, and International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, as well as at top-tier international conferences like MICCAI, AAAI, ACM SIGIR, and IJCAI.

The State Council's "Opinions on Fully Strengthening Basic Scientific Research" clearly states that "a strong foundation in basic scientific research is the cornerstone of building a world-leading science and technology power." Frontier foundational theory research in data science is particularly crucial in the era of big data. The institute sincerely welcomes scholars from home and abroad who are dedicated to data science research to join us in creating an internationally recognized center for data science research.
