Institute of Advanced Networking and Computing Systems

The Institute of Advanced Networking and Computing Systems at Sun Yat-sen University's School of Data Science and Computer Science was established in 2015. Its goal is to develop advanced networking and computing systems with internationally leading standards to efficiently support large-scale complex applications such as big data, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and industrial internet. The institute focuses on key industries and fields, conducting cutting-edge research and applied studies. Following the "One College, Two Centers" development strategy of the School of Data Science and Computer Science at Sun Yat-sen University, it collaborates closely with the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou and the Big Data Science Research Center for integrated operations. Leveraging the "Tianhe-2" supercomputer, the institute has conducted extensive work in talent cultivation, industry applications, and scientific research in the areas of new network technologies and advanced computing, promoting the development of the discipline.

The institute boasts a well-structured and highly skilled research team, currently consisting of 22 research personnel, including 7 professors, 9 associate professors, 1 senior lecturer, and 5 full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows. Among them are 1 National Distinguished Expert, 1 recipient of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "Hundred Talents Program," 1 Humboldt Scholar from Germany, 1 selected talent under the Ministry of Education's New Century Talent Plan, 1 leader of Guangdong Province's Pearl River Innovation Team, 1 leading talent under Guangdong's Special Support Program, 1 young top talent under Guangdong's Special Support Program, 2 recipients of Guangdong's Natural Science Outstanding Youth Fund, 4 selected talents under Guangzhou's Pearl River Technology New Star program, and 6 talents introduced through Sun Yat-sen University's "Hundred Talents Program."
In recent years, the institute has undertaken a series of national-level and provincial/ministerial-level research projects, including key national R&D plan projects, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, major science and technology special projects of Guangdong Province, and major projects funded by the Ministry of Finance's Cultural Industry Development Special Fund. It has also conducted a series of industrial application research in areas such as smart education, intelligent manufacturing, and smart healthcare. Through years of research accumulation, the institute has achieved a leading domestic position in edge computing, cloud computing, and intelligent planning, developing collaborative edge computing systems for AIoT, multimedia edge computing systems, and human-machine-thing integration intelligent manufacturing platforms. It has also taken the lead in building the largest supercomputing education practice platform in China, "Supercomputing Classroom."
